Major Project Site Introduction

Back on the blog... so this is my site for Advance Landscape design.  A 1.5 km stretch of Hove seafront in east sussex:

To the west of the site is a large industrial site, consisting of timber yards, metal works and Shoreham Power Station to the west. After initial discussions with Tom Turner the suggestion was that the industrial area was incorporated into the site, however at this stage the main project site remains the 1.5km stretch identified on the map above

The King Alfred was subject to a controversial architectural scheme by Frank Gehry, that was in public consultation for a number of years, before planning was finally granted in 2008.  However, the credit crunch meant the financial institution pulled out, leaving the site hanging in  state of uncertainty (below).

Gehry scheme for the King Alfred site, Hove seafront.

The reason for the controversy was the fact the residential towers were so huge... residents living on the opposite side of the road objected to losing their sea view.

That is a really interesting site with a great potential for a dynamic linnear masterplan with permeable fingers into town.
Gehrys plan is of interest, but if tom turner didnt mention it have a look at OMA and west 8 2022 florida submissions and there detailing of the strategic thought.. also urban planners
    http://www.mbmarquitectes.cat
    for methodology
also have a look at 'urban design compendium' by llewelyn- davies once free from english partnerships - now 'homes and communites.co.uk' for terminology and calculations.
