Walking the line

Slightly delayed - LINE IN THE LANDSCAPE.  This is about understanding the urban landscape long 'the line' - which in this case runs from the high point of Primrose Hill to Guards Memorial in St. James Park.  So, we walked the line south with a view to recording our sensory experiences and recording them as linear experience map, with aim of building a better understanding of the landscape as a layered composition of solid tactile textures interlaced with physical and emotional experiences

Surprise in the Sky - detailing in Argyll St
Dropped into RIBA on Portland place and saw an exhibition showing the 'Balancing Barn' project - a house in Suffolk, designed by MVRDV in Holland http://www.mvrdv.nl

Really lovely model made from aluminum - must have cost a bomb!
The contours of the landscape created with layers of sheet aluminum stacked vertically
The Barn responds through its architecture and engineering to the site condition and natural setting. The traditional barn shape and reflective metal sheeting take their references from the local building vernacular.

Really like the highly polished exterior paneling taking the reflections of the landscape - a fantastic device for softening the impact of such a radical piece of architecture

Aluminium layers
View from the top of RIBA - nice copper panel work on the the building, right. Colours of the sun going down looked impressive, if you like that sort of thing. BT tower looking big!

Project 6 - 'Memorable Rhythms'

Here we go.... althought there is a slight problem, on the plan and axonmetic with data 'falling off' when I export from Indesign as a PDF whic I will sort out... annoying - you get the idea anyway!

Essentially:

This project is inspired by memory.  The installation is a ‘network’ that spans the site, linking the sea to the land.  It is a disruptive influence with interventions (Memory Banks) that a serve to amplify the Greenhithe experience the visitors to the site.  The project is about amplifying the sensory experience.

Project 5 - Space and Layers

4 collages - describing the themes: Fire, Water, Earth and Air
Fire  - the sun creating dynamic shadow (above)

Water - the sea as a collector of matter

Earth - layering of the the land, dissected by water

Air - object in the landscape deflecting the wind

Dynamic Composition - model showing the layering of the residue collected by the memory banks
Memory banks - cutting through the landscape
Memory banks - linking the sea and land...

Interference - 'knitting the landscape together'

Project 4 - Design Development

Developing the concept based on the selected
theme of 'Memory' - including site survey and
design development.

'Memory Banks' - Monoliths positioned in the
estuary acting as disruptive elements...

'Memory pools' - collectors of tidal over spill

Model 1 - 'Memory Banks and the Sea'

Disturbance - of the moment forms, shape and patterns

Model 2 - 'Memory Banks and the Sun'

Shadow as ephemeral memories

Model 3 - Memory Banks and the Land

Cutting through the land and kitting together the  landscape (shadow)
