Walking the line

Slightly delayed - LINE IN THE LANDSCAPE.  This is about understanding the urban landscape long 'the line' - which in this case runs from the high point of Primrose Hill to Guards Memorial in St. James Park.  So, we walked the line south with a view to recording our sensory experiences and recording them as linear experience map, with aim of building a better understanding of the landscape as a layered composition of solid tactile textures interlaced with physical and emotional experiences

Surprise in the Sky - detailing in Argyll St
Dropped into RIBA on Portland place and saw an exhibition showing the 'Balancing Barn' project - a house in Suffolk, designed by MVRDV in Holland http://www.mvrdv.nl

Really lovely model made from aluminum - must have cost a bomb!
The contours of the landscape created with layers of sheet aluminum stacked vertically
The Barn responds through its architecture and engineering to the site condition and natural setting. The traditional barn shape and reflective metal sheeting take their references from the local building vernacular.

Really like the highly polished exterior paneling taking the reflections of the landscape - a fantastic device for softening the impact of such a radical piece of architecture

View from the top of RIBA - nice copper panel work on the the building, right. Colours of the sun going down looked impressive, if you like that sort of thing. BT tower looking big!
